Community Outreach

Our Community Impact Through Fundraising & Service Opportunities

Giving back has been a cornerstone of the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club since its founding more than 130 years ago. Through the generosity of our members, fundraising events, and community support, we are able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and organizations throughout Glen Ellyn and the surrounding communities.

Our philanthropy and service projects focus on supporting public welfare, health, education, the arts, and community services. Each year, the Club carefully allocates funds through its Philanthropy Budget to organizations and initiatives that align with our mission of strengthening and enriching our community.

Scholarships represent our largest annual philanthropic commitment. We proudly award college scholarships to deserving graduating seniors from Glenbard West High School and Glenbard South High School. These scholarships help students pursue their educational goals while recognizing academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and future potential. Investing in the next generation is one of the most rewarding ways we fulfill our mission and contribute to the future success of our community.

In addition to scholarships, the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club provides financial and practical support to more than a dozen nonprofit organizations serving Glen Ellyn and neighboring communities. These organizations address a wide range of needs, including food insecurity, family services, healthcare, education, youth development, senior support, and community enrichment. Our contributions help these organizations continue their important work and extend their reach to those who need assistance most.

Every fundraiser, event, and volunteer effort undertaken by our members contributes to this lasting impact. Through the collective dedication of our members and supporters, the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club continues a proud tradition of philanthropy, fostering opportunities, providing assistance, and helping build a stronger, more vibrant community for all.

Our Scholarship Selection Process

Investing in Students Who Invest in Their Community

For generations, the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club has proudly supported local high school students through our annual scholarship program. As a philanthropic organization dedicated to strengthening our Glen Ellyn community, we believe that service, leadership, and compassion are qualities worthy of recognition and investment.

Our Scholarship Committee carefully reviews every application using a comprehensive evaluation rubric designed to identify students who not only excel academically, but also demonstrate a lasting commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Our goal is to recognize well-rounded students whose achievements reflect the values of the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club and whose future holds the promise of continued leadership and community impact.

Scholarship Evaluation Criteria

Each application is thoughtfully reviewed based on the following five areas:

Community Service & Volunteerism

The strongest emphasis is placed on significant and sustained community service, whether through Glenbard West and South High Schools or the broader community. The committee considers the applicants:

  • Leadership in volunteer activities
  • Length of commitment
  • Meaningful impact on the organizations and people they have served
*

Leadership & Extracurricular Involvement

We value students who actively participate in school organizations, athletics, music, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. Evaluations focus on:

  • Leadership roles
  • Long-term involvement
  • Commitment to their school community
*

Academic Achievement

Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance, as reflected in their grade point average (GPA), while balancing the many demands of high school life.

*

Personal Essay

The application essay provides students with an opportunity to share their perspectives, experiences, and aspirations. The committee looks for thoughtful writing that demonstrates:

  • Awareness of broader societal issues
  • Personal values and character
  • A vision for making a positive impact in the future
*

Responsibilities Beyond School

We recognize that many students contribute in significant ways outside the classroom. Consideration is given to applicants who balance additional responsibilities such as:

  • Employment
  • Teaching or mentoring others
  • Caring for family members
*

Recognizing Future Leaders

Our scholarships are awarded to Glenbard District high school students from West and South who exemplify academic excellence, servant leadership, and a genuine commitment to improving their communities. We are honored to support these exceptional young leaders as they continue their educational college journeys and prepare to make an even greater impact in the years ahead.
